Simple Autumn Home Styling Tips

Welcome the new season by adding some autumnal beauty into your home. It’s the perfect time to adapt and update your space for the long wintery nights ahead. Autumn is all about staying in and feeling cosy and warm, so why not include some of these easy styling tips to to create the perfect retreat.

Add Tone and Texture

Autumn colours don’t automatically mean burnt oranges, mustard yellows and rusty reds. If the stereotypical autumnal colours don’t go with your current theme, you can incorporate deep purples, peacock blues and forest greens. If you don’t want to grab the paintbrush and frog tape then add these colours in home accessories. Rugs, blankets, cushions, vases etc

Texture is a really important part of Autumn aesthetics. Layer up different textures such as tweed, knit, wools, faux fur and fringing to create warmth in your interiors. If you prefer a neutral palette then you need focus on textures to create interesting visual points to draw peoples eye too.

Create an Autumn Themed Centrepiece

A fun and creative way to bring this season into your home is to create an autumnal themed dining centrepiece. Invite friends over for a cheese and wine evening or have the family round for a Sunday roast. Staying in is the new going out, so make the most of your dining table.

Be Clever With Lighting

Lighting is one of the most important elements in creating atmosphere. For Autumn you want your space to feel warm and intimate.

Down lights or pendant lights can sometimes be too bright whereas lamps are perfect for creating pockets of light around the room. One thing I love are the Phillips Hue light bulbs (amazon.co.uk), controlled by an app or your Amazon Alexa, you can change the colour of the bulb or dim it, perfect for creating a chilled atmosphere.

Use candles to create more intimate lighting, as mentioned in How to Hygge Your Home, candles are so important in creating atmosphere. They also evoke the sense of smell, try Wax Lyrical Rhubarb and Ginger candle (boots.co.uk), it’s the perfect Autumnal scent.

Switch up your bed linen

Not only should you switch up your quilt to higher TOG to keep you warm, its also worth going for a higher thread count bed linen set. And as always its best to opt for natural materials like cotton to help you to not overheat.

Its also nice to indulge in texture, and colours here. Layer up cosy bedspreads, blankets and cushions to create somewhere you struggle to leave every morning.
